ABCARA 2025 Scientific Research Symposium
The ABCARA 2025 Scientific Research Symposium will be held at The Langham on the Gold Coast (Qld) on September 17th following on from the 17th COGNO Annual Scientific Meeting.
The theme for our 2025 conference is “Frontiers in Brain Cancer Research”, and we are excited to announce our invited speakers:
Dr Adam Sonabend, Associate Professor of Neurosurgery and Director of Translational Neuro-Oncology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, Chicago USA
Dr Thomas Park, leads the Translational Neuro-Oncology Lab at the Centre for Brain Research (CBR) at the University of Auckland NZ, and he is the co-chair and founding member of the New Zealand Aotearoa Neuro-Oncology Society
They will join us along with a selection of outstanding national speakers and presentations from abstr.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION - ABCARA 2025
Abstracts must be submitted to contact@abcara.com by Thursday 31st July 2025. Please specify whether you would like to be considered for a poster presentation or abstract talk (or both) in your submission.
Abstract Specifications
- Abstracts should be 250 words maximum including the section headings. The title, authors' names, professional affiliations and references are not included in the word count.
- Title: The abstract title should be concise and describe/refer to the content.
- Authors: Authors' names should be supplied in full.
- Affiliation: Institutional affiliations should be indicated for each author.
- Abstract text: The abstract should detail the objectives and results of your research project and be structured to include an introduction indicating the purpose of the study (Aims), a brief description of the study methods (Methods), a summary of the results (Results) and a statement of the conclusions (Conclusions).

Poster Presentations:
Abstracts accepted for poster presentation will be available for viewing during the lunch
and afternoon-tea sessions of the symposium.
Abstract Talks:
There will be x5 abstracts selected for talks in the last session of the program with an
approximate 10min time allocation.
Abstract Speakers will also receive invitations to the ABCARA Conveners Drinks on
Tuesday 16th September.
ABCARA 2024 Scientific Research Symposium
The ABCARA 2024 Scientific Research Symposium was held at The Langham, Melbourne on October 13th as part of the 16th COGNO Annual Scientific Meeting.
This year, we featured two highly acclaimed international speakers: Prof Pim French (ERASMUS MC Cancer Center, The Netherlands) and Dr. Shawn Hervey-Jumper (University of California San Francisco, Brain Tumor Center, USA), along with a selection of outstanding national speakers.

2023 Scientific Research Symposium
Our third Annual Scientific Research Symposium featured a diverse line-up of esteemed national and international speakers who shared their advancements within the field of neuro-oncology. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to our sponsor, the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation, for making this event a reality.
Our international keynote speakers, Prof Justin Lathia (Cleveland Clinic) and A/Prof Charles Unsworth (University of Auckland), presented some fascinating talks as well as an outstanding series of national speakers.
There was ample opportunity for poster-viewing, networking, and forging new connections within the network. Additionally, ABCARA hosted a distinguished panel of brain cancer specialists that provoked engaging discussion in our last session of the day.
2022 Scientific Research Symposium
ABCARA’s 2022 Scientific Research Symposium was a resounding success with over 80 delegates in attendance from all over Australia and the world.
A/Prof Mario Suvà (Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School) and A/Prof Krishna Bhat (University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center) presented virtual and in-person talks respectively, along with a number of highly accomplished national speakers.
ABCARA also received over numerous poster submissions for this event of which were independently assessed on the day. Our 2022 poster and talk prize winners are listed below. ABCARA would like to thank our generous 2022 prize sponsors: The VCCC Alliance and the Minderoo Foundation.






2021 Scientific Research Symposium
ABCARA’s inaugural Scientific Research Symposium was held virtually in 2021 due to COVID-19 restrictions. ABCARA had an excellent online turn-out, with over 150 delegates joining the meeting over the course of the 1-day workshop.
